Every dream takes action…repeated-every-day-sometimes-slog-feeling action. Even winning the lottery usually takes an individual buying several lottery tickets on a regular basis to make it happen. I don’t care how much you paid for that self-help workshop that told you otherwise, but absolutely no one wins overnight. In physics, the opposite of action is inertia where nothing is happening or worse, changing. If your life has been feeling inert and you need a push towards a dream—that big change towards your full potential, reading self-help books and watching gurus online all day long and not taking action will do NOTHING for you.
I believe there are 4 kinds of people out there:
They make up most of the masses. They might have dreams and aspirations but are quite content at achieving the typical, ordinary life. They don’t see much past this. They don’t work hard. They aren’t creative to envision or care for an elevated life for themselves or their family. On the bright side, they are, for the most part, happy. If they are not, they don’t know how to dig themselves out of their rut, so they turn to various distractions to pass their time.
These make up the rest of the masses. They are very hard-working people that will work up to 20-hour days if necessary, to provide for their families. However, they also lack the creativity to take their lives to the next level. They too, are mostly content and on the even brighter side, are so busy working that they usually don’t have useless distractions occupying their time.
These are the few who have imagination and think outside of the Ordinaries’ box. They are very creative and can think of different ideas outside of the box and appreciate another visionaries’ work when they come across it. These guys are also very critical of others and sit around observing and critiquing the world. Ideas are nothing without action, however, and they too, turn to various distractions to pass their time.
These are the even fewer few that come from the Creatives group but ACTUALLY take action towards their visions or ideas. These are often the visionaries or pioneers (Actioneer = Action + Pioneer) in whatever they’re doing because no one else has taken it upon themselves in the past to do what they do, let alone envision what they do. They not only think outside of the Ordinaries’ box but they ACT outside the Hard-Working and Creatives’ box, often changing the world around them.
I’m pretty sure that I’m a Creative and have been Hard-Working many times. To be an Actioneer is something I have been before too, but sometimes I get overwhelmed, overly discouraged, or are just plain too lazy to act upon my often-big ideas. So, I need to try harder to be an Actioneer every day. Which one are you?
If you want to be an Actioneer, then the following five tips can help you out.
1. Keep the Big Picture Close
You don’t have to spend hours making a vision board. Although if you have time, by all means, go for it. But visualizing what achieving your dream looks like every time you need a push to take action is a great way to start. Another thing you can do is watch your hero or mentor doing what you want to do. Keep a picture of your dream on your phone’s lock screen, bedroom dresser, and or wallet. Constantly remind yourself of that life you want. But don’t spend too much time up in the clouds. As soon as you feel that spark of inspiration, make moves. Take action.
3. Sacrifice To Make Time
I know it’s tempting to just turn Netflix on and binge-watch a new show, but in order to start taking action on what you want to do, something has to give. You have to sacrifice something else that takes up time and put it in to this. I won’t sacrifice time with my family, and I cannot sacrifice time that I need for my business, but perhaps I can skip watching a show today for the sake of taking action? Some of us may waste time with other activities. Ask yourself, “What can I sacrifice today to make time for my dream?” If you aren’t willing to sacrifice anything, then what we have is a dead-end. Only you can see the road ahead of you. No one else will believe in what you want to do if you—yourself refuse to make the sacrifice needed to make your dream a reality. Take action.
3. Hate Your Life Now
How will you ever take action if you’re comfortable and happy in your current life now? I’m not saying hate the things that you may be blessed with such as a loving family, supportive friends or a nice smile, but you have to hate an aspect on your life in order for you to be motivated enough to change it. For example, I have been blessed with a successful e-commerce business, but I hated the fact that I was no longer creating as much as I used to. So, as much as I still work hard for my business and I’m grateful for my loved ones, I still take action to get back to being creative…whether that be in writing, music, or design. I HATE not being creative, so I take action in whatever it takes to keep creating. Find that part of your life to hate. Take action.
4. Just Start!
I’ve been dyyying to write again. Today, I finally have 30 minutes to do so. One of the countless things that I’ve been wanting to do is simply spread some positivity out there with my writing. But as with anything one wants to do in life, how do I spread positivity with my writing if I don’t take action and do it? My problem is not motivation, but time. My baby just turned 6 months old. I can barely work on my e-commerce business and get back to being active, let alone write! But here I go…STARTING. Whatever it is you want to do, just do it. If not right now, then sometime today. Even if you only have 5 minutes, 30 minutes, or if you’re lucky, an hour or more—just get started. Take action.
5. Use The Power of Music
Music has this superpower to make us feel differently…whether we need more energy, more inspiration, or just want to smile. Here is a YouTube playlist of 12 amazing songs that trigger that feeling of taking action and conquering whatever is holding me back. You may even listen to it for working out. There are songs to warm-up and stretch to, songs to get you hyped, and a last song for cool down. Enjoy. Take action.

Time to put my life back together right now (now)”
Your dream might be to change the world or simply shed 10 pounds. You might be incredibly busy and can’t imagine doing anything else right now, but if your dream means that much to you, all you have to do is take action every day towards it. You don’t have to climb a mountain yet. You can simply take one step at a time until you reach your destination.
“To change the world enough to mean anything…it’s slow, it’s methodical, it’s exhausting…we don’t all have the stomach for it.” –Elliot of Mr.Robot
If you’ve read this far, I think you have the stomach for it. You are an Actioneer. You are not an Ordinary. So, once again, take action. Now.
